Using ChatGPT for Web Content in 2023
It’s no secret that the use of generative AI has created some fear and controversy. And it has created tremendous interest and opened up a world of incredible possibilities. But what about using ChatGPT for web content? As with any new technology, especially transformative technology, it is important to learn how to use it best and discover ways in which it can help with your productivity or even change the way you work. With this in mind, I have been diving into ChatGPT for many different purposes, and I decided to try using it to build out some of website content to see if I could speed up the content creation process and overall quality of what I wanted to have on my website. I am by no means an expert, and with this in mind, I am still very impressed with what I have achieved in a very short time. This is truly a game-changer!
The Initial Setup Prompt
I start every ChatGPT session with a prompt to get it into the “right frame of mind,” so to speak. It helps to set up your goals, the key messages, and the expected output.
“Editorial Guidelines” Page
This page is part of my website and must express my content creation approach. These series of prompts involved an initial setup, some various prompts on alternative business sites and concepts, followed by a lengthy prompting session around domain name suggestions and evaluations.
This gave quite a decent result, but I needed some additional information about the use of affiliate links, so I added another prompt.

The output of this prompt was then merged with the previous one, where I reviewed it and edited it to suit my style better. The final page can be reviewed here.
“About Me” Page
Since I added so much to my previous prompts, I continued the same ChatGPT conversation to build my About Me page. Here is my next prompt:
The result was pretty darn good… I only had to make a few modifications for clarity and style. You can see the more detail you provide in the prompts and the more feedback you give in additional prompts, the better you can direct the output content and styling.

I didn’t like this original “lame” conclusion, it’s late at night, I’m super tired, and since this is a post about using ChatGPT with the right prompts to get a good result, I figured that ChatGPT could help write the conclusion! So I created a new conversation and here is the prompt I used, along with the unmodified result from ChatGPT (normally I would make a few additional modifications, but I figured you would be interested in the raw output from ChatGPT, which is actually not so “raw”). You can see how well this works when you provide the right level of initial detail!
